Dr. Hugo Halberstadt donated his collection of Japanese sword fittings to the Museum of Decorative Art in Copenhagen by a deed of gift dated 4 May 1940. Hugo Halberstadt's collection was not unknown in Japan. One of the museum's Japanese colleagues, Mr. Nobuo Ogasawara, through his investigation and research, led the discussion in Japan which led to a proposal for this lavishly illustrated publication. Text is in both Japanese and English. Through great Japanese generosity, nourished by an understandable national interest in the collection, it has been made possible, with these magnificent volumes, to honor the memory of Dr. Hugo Halberstadt. |
