'YAMAKICHIBEI'
|
Provenance: Robert E. Haynes; Elliott D. Long |
$2500.00 |
A very fine example with family mon and dragon fly motif. The design and treatment of the plate, featuring outstanding horizontal yasurime, and a 'kaku mimi ko-niku' rim, are not normally seen in Yamakichibei work. The patina of the entire piece is chocolate brown. These radical and extreme design variations confirm the superb ability of this smith, all in a mokko-gata shape. 9.20cm x 8.25cm x 0.35cm |

MEI: 'YAMAKICHIBEI'. This signature is illustrating the features that differentiate it from that of the Meijin-Shodai: a low central stroke in the 'Yama' ji; the close together and parallel form of the two horizontal strokes in the 'Kichi' ji; the manner of rendering the bottom character being farther apart in the 'Bei' ji. This confirms a master work by the NIDAI 'YAMAKICHIBEI'. |
