'MINAMOTO MASAKUNI SAKU'
|
Provenance: Elliott Long | $2000.00 |
"The theme of this tsuba is Dragon with Waves and Rocks. The five rocks represent those located off the coast of Sendai. The Jodogahama volcanic rock formations are a remarkable sight off the coast of Miyako Bay in Miyako, Japan. These tall, jagged rocks have been sculpted into unusual shapes over centuries by wind and rain, making them famous throughout the country. The work is signed with a long signature (see translation below). This craftsman's work can be found around 1779, Mid Edo Period. It is valuable as a historic item. There is not a lot written on this craftsman yet, but on this tsuba there is a lot of good information about him." (Haynes & Long) 6.40cm x 5.90cm x 0.40cm |
