"Rare and excellent tsuba, unsigned Hoan [with certificate of preserved sword fittings]. Refined black iron plate with brass rim, hand carved to create a faint rain dragon on the surface. The rim is a rare and distinctive feature for a Hoan tsuba. As it is unsigned, it may have been a tsuba presented to the shogunate. Dates to the Muromachi period."
