"Rare and excellant tsuba, unsigned HOAN (with certificate of preserved sword fittings). Refined black iron plate with brass rim cover. Carved rain dragon on plate, not acid etched. The rim is a rare and distinctive feature for a Hoan tsuba. As it is unsigned, it may have been a tsuba presented to the Shogunate.
Dates to the Muromachi period, ca.1450." (Long)

7.20cm x 7.22cm x Rim 0.78cm x Plate 0.52cm
