KO - UMETADA
|
PROVENANCE: Robert E. Haynes | $400 |
"A classic KO-UMETADA iron plate tsuba. Formed as two wisteria blooms which also form a futatsu tomoe mon, used by the Fujiwara and many other families, particularly those with the second name kanji ending in TO (FUJI), Sato, Saito, Goto, etc." (Haynes)
7.4cm x 7.5cm x 0.4cm. thick |
|
"The carving of the blooms is very well done, and continues over the edge of the plate. The various sizes of gold dots of dew are typical for this classic style of Umetada tsuba. None have been found with a signature so far. Most probably made in Kyoto by the Nishijin branch of the Umetada school, for a high ranking court official." (Haynes)
