PROVENANCE:    Robert E. Haynes $500.00
"Iron oval tanto size plate carved overall with massed plum blooms, over the edge and on both sides, each with fine detail.

Signed on the face: 'Choshu Ju Tomomitsu Saku', H 09974.0. He was of the Nakai family of Choshu and worked mostly in solid plate style about ca. 1700. We do not know his relationship to other members of the Nakai family school. Were this tsuba unsigned we would have no way of knowing that it is Choshu school work." (Haynes)
