'JOSHU NISHIJIN JU SHOAMI MASANORI SAKU'

Return to Tsuba Collective

Provenance: Robert Haynes NFS
"A tsuba with a high-carving inlay on a polished iron base that shines like a mirror, and a shimeo placed in a position opposite to it, giving it an elegant appearance with its characteristic transparent thread. The drum, which originated in India and was introduced via China, is an indispensable instrument for traditional Japanese performing arts such as nohgaku, and kabuki. The striking surface is painted in red bronze on a hazy silver background. The body is inlaid with a floral arabesque pattern in gold and silver. The space is used luxuriously to draw light curves.
Japanese musical instruments are symbols of education. Because it makes a loud noise, it is an auspicious pattern that means things will come to fruition. This is a beautiful piece of work that can only be achieved by Masanori in the textile town of Nishijin."
